Farewell to TATA NANO

Welcome to Carwahi.

I'm all set here to give a farewell to the "Lakhtakiya" car of India, that's Tata Nano. It was first showcased in 2008 Auto Expo, this was expected to change the way of motoring in India as this was mainly focused to the middle class families those who can't afford a many lakhs car.

The idea to launch Nano is by Tata's ex-chairperson Mr. Ratan Tata, which was inspired from a family of 4, riding a motorcycle in traffic. Nano will be for those who can't able to afford a car because of low-income & thought of making a car that'll cost around 1 lakh, but somehow failed to attract buyers as on-road price (Including the road tax + insurance) was calculated to be above 1 Lakh. Somehow the poor appeal both from the front as well as the rear with lack of leg-room at the rear also be the reason of failure. But every car has their own fans & wants to be the owner of one.

Talking some technological, Nano is powered by a rear set 2-cylinder 624 cc engine, peaks out power of 37 bhp & 52 Nm torque paired with 12' tires with a top speed of 105 kmph. The rear set engine is used only for cost cutting which has a disadvantage too as it tends to heat up very fast due to no natural air cooling system is provided to cool down the engine. The rear passengers also had to bear the heat of the engine which is also a down-side of this vehicle. There were news of burning Nano, the problem aroused in the first-gen car due to the poor insulation of the wires, which results in nightmare for supposed to be the owner of "Lakhtakiya".

There were limited storage spaces as the boot can't be opened because of the engine, only the front has some space to keep small baggage & in interior there were only 2 cup holders & 2 small glove boxes that means the car isn't very practical cabin to be in. The concerned is also with the safety standards of Nano, which was recorded "0" in NCAP ratings as the built isn't that great without any ABS, Airbags & Seat belt pre-tensioner.

Tata introduced the face-lift version, Nano-twist, in which they've provided a bit-more space to keep the luggage at the front & a bottle holder at the front door with the increased appeal of the exterior looks as well as the exteriors. But still the number of sales isn't very great to rely on.

There were rumors about the Electric Vehicle of Nano which was showcased in the recent Auto-Expo which has LED headlamps with touch infotainment system, height adjustable driver seat & also the vehicle can go up-to 400 kms of non-stop running on battery. Hope so Tata bring the vehicle with advanced features with safety standards properly being followed by next year which may increase the sales of the Lakhtakiya. For now they've stopped the production of the vehicle as it was incurring a huge loss to the company.
