Review of Mahindra XUV 500
Welcome to Carwahi.
Mahindra is tirelessly working on their flagship SUV which has plush new interiors & new updated classy exterior which makes the car stand-out of the crowd. This SUV has inspired from "Cheetah", I hope you've guessed it now! Its the one & only Mahindra XUV 500.
Mahindra loves to update their present cars time-to-time to stay in the changing environment of the market. They've recently updated the Scorpio & then now its the time to give another fresh look to the XUV 500, the most successful SUV of an Indian born & it is necessary to do so to adapt the change.
The big transformation that has taken place is the updated Front Grille, gone are the Cheetah inspired design, it now gets chrome dashes & is slightly being streched lower down to cool down the engine naturally. Talking about the headlamps they continue to get the LED projector lamps with updated position of the DRLs, additional is the smoked out lamps. The bumper has been revamped which now houses the fog-lamps with chrome treatment all-around & a skid-plate at the center for sporty appeal. The rear look is also been changed as it houses all new split tail-lights with the revamped tail-gate opener.
The XUV 500 top-spec variant comes with the dual tone interior in tan leather color, which makes interior plush & give a touch of luxurious feel. The center console is now in Piano-Black color which sometimes may accept your fingerprints there & have to wipe it often! It now has Andriod-Auto with more improved visibility of rear camera. They've managed to provide a Smart Watch which can be connected to the car for the locking & unlocking of the doors, information about the car as well as the rider. Coming to practicality of the cabin, all the 4-doors contains pocket which can house 1-liter bottles, arm-rest in the front as well as rear with cup-holders, cubby holes at the front for the mobile, keys etc. & also have two-glove boxes for extra spaces.
Driving the manual transmission XUV, was an exciting task to perform! As the huge front windshield makes your drive more pleasurable as you seat high from the ground (200 mm ground clearance) & you can have a great visibility of the road ahead which'll help you to control your car better having slight body-roll felt on corners. Under-the-hood 2.2 L with petrol as well as diesel (prefer diesel on a SUV) peaks out 155 PS of power & 360 Nm of torque & having a mileage of 11 KMPL (Petrol) & 14 KMPL (Diesel), not at all bad for a massive SUV! Turbo-Lag is very much well-contained compared to the previous gen but the top-end has nothing to give out for.
Mahindra has also provided host of safety features to their flagship SUV, with Airbags & ABS as standard. Constructed on MQB platform, the structure can withhold impacts from the front as well as from the side-ways.
Concluding this review, XUV-500 has improved a-lot in the built quality, comfort levels, drive-terrain & features. The engine has slightly been tweaked for the max mileage, which helps in maintaining the refinement levels & NVH levels but still screams in the top-end, I love the sound of it as it sounds sporty though! & it's also value for money as rival gets only 5-seaters option but this has 7-seaters.
XUV 500 is priced from 12 Lakhs all the way Automatic Version 16 Lakhs. It's rivals are mainly Hyundai Creta & Maruti Vitara Brezza.
